Abstract

Open story structures are to be mainly susceptible to collapse and severe damage under earthquake excitation in hill areas. Nowadays many buildings constructed have soft ground story for various purposes, for example, multipurpose hall, parking etc. The examination has been led to get the reaction of RC open story building exposed to seismic tremor loads. In present work, twelve storied structure on inclined ground (150 with horizontal) are considered. The reaction of structure is assessed in SAP 2000 software by using performance based seismic design. The analytical results discussed in the nature of capacity curve, structure performance point and plastic hinge development pattern. Result indicated that, there are formations of plastic deformation at ground story column level. To counteract the total collapse of soft story structures, there is need to retrofit the open story. Therefore, the alternative measures are recommended to get better the reaction of soft story like RC shear wall, steel bracing, and infill wall.
