Abstract

This paper presents an apparatus-based experiment for teaching air conditioning and refrigeration in undergraduate engineering hands-on based learning curricula. Results for an R134A based refrigeration and air conditioning performance are shown in this paper illustrating the effects of re-heat on the COP of the cycle as well as the use on a LabView interface to extract test data. The primary use of this equipment is to show various “what-if” scenarios. In the present case, the effects of reheat on R134A cycle performance are illustrated. The COP is found to be 2.9 corresponding ton, an EER = 10 BTU/W-hr and the sensible heat ratio for the psychrometric process is 80%. Keywords: Air conditioning, LabView, reheat, R134A
