Abstract

High-power-density electronic appliances are in demand to meet the necessity from modern sustainable society. The heat generated with the continuous functioning need to be dissipated to keep electronics cool to retain efficiency and performance. To suppress heat accumulation, surplus heat needs to be controlled by adapting efficient cooling technologies. As an alternative, nanomaterials-enabled phase change materials (PCM)-based cooling is appropriate to curb temperature shoot. This work focuses on developing eutectic phase change material with exceptionally high thermal conductivity and heat transfer characteristics. Aluminium nitride (AlN) and boron nitride nanoplatelets (2D- BN) incorporated eutectic phase change materials (PCM) were fabricated. Eutectic palmitic-stearic acid (PS) and PS-loaded with 3 wt.% 2D-BN and 1 wt.% AlN (EP4) exhibited phase transition peak temperatures of 60.1ºC and 55.4 ºC, respectively. Addition of 2D-BN and AlN resulted in better thermal transport with 295 % increase in thermal conductivity and a decrease in latent heat by 4.9 %. EP4 showed rapid heat transfer to reach the maximum reachable temperature in less time in comparison to PS.
