Abstract

Alkali activated material is a product manufactured to serve the needs of construction. Theproduction of alkali activated material has many advantages compared to other traditional bakedmaterials. The product is not heated at high temperature, so it saves energy and reduces the amountof waste impacting negatively to ecology system and human life. The raw materials for production ofalkali activated materials are re-used from other industrial solid wastes such as fly ash, bottom ash, blast furnace slag, red mud, and others. The alkali activated materials are formed in many differentmethods such as pouring the fresh mortar paste into the mould or press the powder mixtures at highpressure. In addition, the raw materials are mixed with the binders to increase the mechanicalstrength of the product. This study produced the alkali activated material using industrial solid wastessuch as waste sludge from Thu Duc water plant, Ho Chi Minh City and fly ash from Vinh Tan coalfiredthermal power plant, Binh Thuan province as raw materials. The raw materials were preparedand mixed with alkaline activator and pressed at 25 kN pressure to form the bricks. The products ofunburnt brick have engineering properties meet the requirements of unburnt construction bricks in themarket.
