Prevalence of Home Accidents among Children: An Evidence Based Review

Abstract

Background: Home accidents and injuries among children are the leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in the world. This evidence-based review aimed to explore the prevalence and of different causes of childhood accidents. Methods: PubMed/Medline and Google Scholar data bases were searched by the authors to identify studies published from 2012 to 2020 covering children using key search terms such as home accidents among children, prevalence of home accidents and domestic injury among children. Results: The findings from the related articles show that the prevalence rate of home accidents are higher among children of different age groups and the most common causes of home accidents are: accidental falls, burns, drowning, poisoning, unintentional injuries and foreign body aspiration. Conclusion: The results of this review recommended the urgent need for health care members, organizations, policymakers, teachers and parents to implement measures that are made mandatory to reduce and prevent home accidents among children
