Abstract

In general media refers to various means of communication. For example, news paper, radio, television, radio, computer, video games, etc. The goal of the Media, Information and Technology(MIT) program is to offer critical, interdisciplinary analysis of the institutions, practices and culturalmeaning associated with technologies of communication, information, knowledge, learning andentertainment. The aim of the present study is, to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teachingprogram on knowledge regarding influence of medias among secondary school going children inselected school. Objectives: 1. Develop structured teaching program on knowledge regardinginfluence of medias among secondary school going children between 11–15 years of age group.2. Assess the knowledge of secondary school going children between 11–15 years of age regardinginfluence of medias before and after the structured teaching program. 3. Evaluate the effectiveness ofstructured teaching program on knowledge regarding influence of medias among secondary schoolgoing children between 11–15 years of age. 4. To find out the association between pre-test knowledgeof secondary school going children and their selected demographic variables. Design: One-grouppre-test and post-test was selected for the study. Subjects: The samples were 60 students fromselected school. Method: A convenience sampling method was used to select the sample for study.Data Collection Tool: Data was collected from the subjects using a formal information questionnaire.Data Analysis: The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and theresults were interpreted in light of the study's objectives and hypothesis. The significance thresholdwas set at 0.05. Result: In the pre-test the subjects had inadequate knowledge with a mean of 36.8%and standard deviation of 3.18 whereas in post-test there was a significant mean knowledge gain of66.2% and a standard deviation of 6.40. All demographic variables have shown a non-significantassociation (P< 0.05) with the mean pre-test knowledge score, such as age (χ2 =3.455)1df, gender(χ2= 0.020)1df, educational qualification (χ2 = 4.501)4df, residence (χ2= 3.404)2df, religion(χ2= 1.058)2df, source of information (χ2 =1.235)3df, family income (χ2= 4.033)4df, media facility(χ2= 0.202)2df, and hours of utilization of media (χ2= 1.158)3df. Conclusion: In pre-test 63% of thesubject had an inadequate knowledge (<50% scores) whereas in the post-test all the subjects hadgained adequate knowledge 66% (>75% score). The present study findings indicate that structuredteaching program on influence of medias was effective in enhancing the knowledge of secondaryschool going children regarding influence of medias. The significant is at 5% level for 59 df(i.e. P< 0.05).
