A Study to Assess the Effect of Audio Drama on Menstrual Hygiene and Reproductive Health in Terms of Knowledge and Expressed Practices among Visually Challenged Adolescent girls at Selected Blind Schools, Haryana

Abstract

Health is an essential factor for a happy contended life. Change makes life more beautiful and worth living if one knows how to adopt oneself and adjust to the challenges presented by the situation, she can face any challenge in life. The changes are more frequent in girls than boys, girl’s mature earlier reach the period of rapid growth earlier than boys. The rapid growth and change in the physical structure is after the attainment of puberty. Aim of the study: “A study to assess the effect of audio drama on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health in terms of knowledge and expressed practices among visually challenged adolescent girls at selected blind schools, Haryana”. Methods: A quasi experimental study was conducted on 60 visually challenged adolescent at selected blind school of Haryana. Visually challenged adolescent girls were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by structured knowledge questionnaire and expressed practices checklist. The reliability co-efficient for the structured knowledge questionnaire was calculated by using Kuder Richardson (0.84) and reliability of the structured practices questionnaire was calculated by test-retest (0.9) it was to be reliable. Intervention: An Audio drama was prepared for the improvement of the knowledge and practices regarding menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. It was developed after doing an extensive review of related research and non-research literature and by taking expert’s opinions. Intervention was provided only in experimental group. Results: Findings of the study revealed that the mean posttest knowledge score (27.87±2.01) and expressed practices score (13.30±0.95) in experimental group were significantly higher than mean posttest knowledge score (18.27±3.43) and expressed practices score (10.97±1.12) in comparison group. The study concluded that the audio drama is effective to enhance the knowledge and practices among visually challenged adolescent girls.
