The Role of Nurses in Feeding Babies Born with Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate

Abstract

Cleft lip and/or palate is among the congenital craniofacial birth anomalies that are mostfrequently observed in the head and neck regions. The treatment of this anomaly, which iscommon today, is the early repair approach. One of the most frequently reported problems inchildren born with cleft lip and palate is feeding difficulty. It is urgent and most importantfunction to ensure and maintain nutrition in nursing interventions. The aim of this review wasto examine the roles of nurses in ensuring and maintaining nutrition in the lip-palate clefts,that are quite common in our country and frequently encountered by pediatric nurses, and inthe care of babies based on evidence-based knowledge.
