Abstract

The present study involves the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the extract of white Calotropis gigantea flowers. The AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, FESEM, XRD, FTIR analysis. A color change was observed at 384 nm indicating the synthesis of nanoparticles due to surface plasmon resonance. The average nanoparticle size was about 50 nm. XRD analysis showed that the AgNPs were crystalline and face centered in nature. FTIR analysis indicated the presence of compounds responsible for reduction and capping of AgNPs. The AgNPs showed bactericidal effect on E. coli and a reduction in biomass was observed during the growth of E. coli along with AgNPs. Thus green synthesis method is a cost effective and stable method for AgNPs production. Keywords: Antibacterial activity, Calotropis gigantea, green synthesis, silver nanoparticles
