Review on Challenges in Drilling Non-metals

Abstract

Drilling is widely used in manufacturing industry and can be easily performed on all materials. It is well known that drilling produces under size of the hole and we need to carry out further operations like boring to get the exact dimensions. When coming to nonmetals like composites maintaining the dimenions in drilling operations is a critical task, as they are laminated with different materials and chances of defects present in the composite. In this paper an attempt is made to gather information on various difficulties observed during drilling of composite materials.
