Abstract

Using X-band (8.2 and 10.5GHz) experimentation, the fluctuation of the dielectric constant (ε’) and dielectric loss (ε’’) of soil samples with different moisture contents has been determined. After reaching a transition point, the value of (ε') grows gradually with moisture content before increasing quickly after that. The emissivity has been estimated from experimentally determined (ε’) using emissivity model for vertical polarization. The findings indicate that as MC/dielectric constant increases, emissivity decreases. The physical characteristics of the red soil samples examined in this investigation indicate that they have a sandy clay loam texture and are naturally alkaline.
