Design and motion control of a differential drive wheel mechanism for a departmental information robot
Abstract
This research study aims to create the Departmental Information Robot which will assist people in finding their way through the academic space. The system operates through a differential drive locomotive system which uses two motorized wheels and a third wheel that functions as a castor wheel. The robot can move in all directions because it has forward and backward movement abilities and sideways motion and 360-degree rotation capabilities. The robot's locomotive system enables multiple directional movement through its motor control system which manages both speed and wheel movement of the robot. The robot will gain new capabilities in the future when it implements voice command operation and mobile application-based control systems. The study aims to create a robot which can move in multiple directions by using an effective and stable system that combines locomotion and navigation with a user-friendly indoor robotic design which functions well in academic environments. The proposed system provides a low-cost and scalable solution for developing intelligent service robots in educational institutions. Differential drive mobile robots become the preferred option because their basic design permits simple control and they can successfully follow designated paths during actual field usage. The mobile robots need precise sensing and positioning methods to enable them to navigate and control themselves throughout changing environments.
