Abstract

A nozzle-diffuser pair is incorporated into a conventional micro-bubble based micropump system and its implications on the performance is evaluated. The proposed model induces flow rectification due to the additional net pressure head acting on account of the nozzle-diffuser pair provided at the ends of the micro channel. An analytical model is used to study the effect of nozzle-diffuser pair on the pump performance and plots of bubble interfacial position vs. time are studied for different positions of the micro heater in the micro channel. On plotting the pump performance curves using the analytical model presented, it is found that the proposed nozzle-diffuser incorporated design exhibits a staggering 300–600% increase in the flow rate for different positions of the heater in the micro channel.
