Abstract

Soils pose problems to civil engineers in general and to geotechnical engineers in particular. They cause damage to structure founded in them because of their potential to react to changes in moisture regime. Soil stabilization is the process of altering some soil properties by different methods, mechanical or chemical in order to produce an improvement soil material which has all the desired engineering properties. In the present work, an attempt has been made to study the compaction and unconfined compressive strength characteristics of red soil blending with different percentages of Portland Pozzolana Cement and Recron-3s plastic fibres with a view to determine the optimum percentage. Test results show that stabilizing red soils with cement and imparting Recron plastic 3s fibers enhance the strength.
