Abstract

Kinetic parameters of metal inhibition in acidic medium in the presence of water-based plant extracts to monitor corrosion rate characteristics was investigated in this research. The two water-based plasts used are pnematopteris pennigera (GF) and selaginella myosurus (SM) and the mild steel was immersed into the extracts and 1.0M of hydrochloride acid was added to monitor the rate of metal sample corrosion of the analytical grade (raw) HCl (87.3mls) in 100mls of plant extract samples. The variation in the corrosion rate constant K was monitored with the effect of temperature and the result obtained revealed increase in K value for A,B.C,H,J,K,L and N before sudden decrease after temperature range of 325K to 330K. The link which is the natural logarithm of corrosion rate in relationship to the reciprocal of temperature rate in relationship to the reciprocal of temperature reveals decrease and increase in the characteristics of the links. The efficiency of the inhibition upon the influence of time was monitored and the result obtained reveals initial increase in efficiency inhibition (Ei) with increase in time before sudden decrease and the effect of temperature demonstrates increase in inhibition efficiency IE. The inhibition characteristics in terms of the water-based plant extract has significantly revealed the usefulness of the plant extract in corrosion rate inhibition of metal in Hcl medium
