Comparative Analysis of the Structural Integrity and Dimensional Stability of Additively Manufactured Biopolymers vs. Thermoformed PETG: A 1-Year Retrospective Study on Polymer Performance in Orthodontic ApplicationsBy Sujitha Suresh, Remmiya Mary Varghese, Parthiban Saketharaman, Mounica Dommeti, V.S. Kumar Bhagavathula, Gadde Harika
Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term dimensional accuracy and structural performance of direct 3D-printed biopolymers compared to conventional vacuum-formed Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) composites. The investigation focused on how different polymer processing methods (additive manufacturing vs. thermoforming) influence material thinning and resistance to occlusal stress. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 60 cases (n = 60) of post-orthodontic maintenance. The sample was divided into two cohorts: Group …

A Retrospective Analysis of Resin-Based Polymer Composites and Bioactive Glass-Polymer Hybrids Regarding Secondary Caries and DurabilityBy NajiyaV.P., Remmiya Mary Varghese, Shrishti Kumawat, Charu Sharma, Gaini Mounika, Mohan Rawat
Abstract: Aim- To compare the 2-year clinical survival and failure modes of a Resin-Based Polymer Composites and BioactiveGlass-Polymer Hybrids in Class I and II posterior restorations. Methods-A total of 550 restorations were placed in adult patients across various private dental practices in India to ensure a diverse clinical demographic. Teeth were randomly assigned and restored with either a hybrid composite (Te-Econom, IvoclarVivadent; n=275) or a Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (GC Gold …

In Vivo Biocompatibility and Interfacial Stability of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes and Nanofilled Resin Composites: A Bioanalytical Study of Polymer-Host Interactions Under Dynamic LoadingBy Anjusha Divakar, Remmiya Mary Varghese, Gayathri Murugan, B. Kaviya, Sowjanya Gunukula, Taniya Maqsood
Abstract: The widespread application of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and nanofilled resin composites in biomedical devices requires rigorous assessment of their biocompatibility under mechanical stress. While nanofilled composites utilize filler particles (<100 nm) to enhance surface properties and wear resistance, the biological response to these materials in a hydrolytic, enzymatic environment remains a critical area of investigation. Objective: To analyze the in vivo bio-molecular response at the interface of TPU aligners and …

Characterization of Antibacterial and Biofilm Inhibition in Tin and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticle-Doped Orthodontic CompositesBy Shifo Savio, Remmiya Mary Varghese, Prem Vishva Natarajan, Pugal Mani
Abstract: Background: This study investigated the antibacterial effectiveness of orthodontic adhesive enhanced with stannous oxide (SnO₂) nanoparticles against Lactobacillus acidophilus and Streptococcus mutans, in comparison to traditional adhesives without nanoparticle infusion. Methods: A modified orthodontic adhesive was prepared by incorporating 1% w/w of tin dioxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles (SnO₂ + ZnO₂ NPs) into Transbond XT. This nanoparticle-enhanced composite was used to fabricate discs for assessing antibacterial activity against Lactobacillus acidophilus …
