Toxicological Impacts of Heavy Metals on FishBy Anirban Raha Roy, Chandan Sarkar
Abstract: In recent times, heavy metals are frequently found in water as pollutants. Heavy metal toxicity has the potentiality to harm aquatic flora and fauna. Fish growth parameters, morphological characteristics as well as haematological, biochemical and physicochemical parameters may be important bio- indicator against this type of pollutants. The purpose of this review is to describe various heavy metals' toxic effects on fish. Heavy metals and its derivative compounds are common …

Diversity and Evenness Measures of Insects Inhabiting Calotropis procera from four Study Areas of North 24 Parganas and Hooghly District of the State West BengalBy Chandan Sarkar
Abstract: The α-diversity found at Ichhapore, North 24 Parganas, near site of human interference, is moderate in number (20 different species) compared to other sites on same plant. Here 3 eudominant, 5 dominant, 7 subdominant, 5 recedent and 0 subrecedent species were found. The cause of eudominance of 3 species may be for adaptation for every environment. From the comparison of different β-diversity indices show high value in data collected from …

Toxicity of Alpha-Cypermethrin on FishBy Pallabi Mohanta, Chandan Sarkar
Abstract: Alpha-cypermethrin is a type II synthetic pyrethroid. Synthetic pyrethroids are used extensively for the control of insect pest and public health purpose. A fresh water fish was exposed to lethal concentration and sub lethal concentration of alpha-cypermethrin, respectively to observe the enzyme activity in functionally two different tissues—gills and liver. The present article focusses on non-target organism in fresh water environment and critically evaluates the toxicity of these pyrethroids in …

Fenvalerate Toxicity on Fish: A ReviewBy Chandan Sarkar, Doli Halder, Nimai Chandra Saha
Abstract: As a new class of agricultural insecticides, synthetic pyrethroids are widely used to control insect pests. Synthetic pyrethroids have shown to enter the aquatic environment from agricultural runoff or drift from aerial and ground-based spraying applications posing threat to fishes, which are less tolerant to pesticides through direct exposure. These insecticides interfere with the sodium channel of the nervous system resulting in prolonged sodium tail current. Widespread application of these …

A study on acute toxicity of a herbicide Fenoxaprop-P-Ethyl on Heteropneustes fossilis along with their behavioural changesBy Chandan Sarkar, Supama Mukherjee, Nimai Chandra Saha
Abstract: AbstractThis study was made to assess the acute toxic effects of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (herbicide used in agriculture) to singhi fish (Heteropneustes fossilis) along with the changes in their behaviour during the test. The 24, 48, 72 and 96 hour LC50 values of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl to Hetropneustes fossilis are made with the concentration of 0.45, 0.72, 1.08, 1.44, 1.8, 2.7, 3.06, 3.6 mg/l. The mortality rate of Heteropneustes fossilis varied significantly (p<0.05) with …
