Non-linear Photonic Crystals and their Applications: A ReviewBy Anirudh Banerjee
Abstract: The nonlinear photonic crystals (NLPCs) are periodic material structures in which nonlinear materials are used for photonic structure formation. In nonlinear photonic crystals, the optical response mainly depends on the intensity of the light beam that propagates through the photonic crystal. These structures show new optical properties with improved or enhanced or new functionalities that cannot be observed in linear photonic crystals. In addition to this, using nonlinear materials in …

Internet of Things and Wireless Sensor Networks: A ReviewBy Anirudh Banerjee, Sheenu Rizvi
Abstract: The Internet of things (IoT) is a group of physical objects with sensor, processing capability and technologies that can connect and interchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communications networks. A Wireless Sensor Network is a network of sensing nodes that collaboratively sense and monitor any system or object or area. This consists of sensors, actuator, gateways, clients etc. These nodes observe the collected data …

Light straightening, super-collimation, strong beaming, extraordinary refraction and splitting in Photonic CrystalsBy Anirudh Banerjee
Abstract: This paper reviews light straightening, super-collimation, strong beaming, extraordinary refraction and splitting in photonic crystals and stratified structures. The light straightening finds potential applications in design of optical devices. The super collimation and strong beaming can be utilized in optical integrated circuits. The extra-ordinary refraction can be utilized in sub wavelength imaging and information propagation. The splitting can be used in optical instrumentation and optical tuning. All these phenomena are …

Analysis of a Digitally Wavelength Tunable Optical Filter SystemBy Anirudh Banerjee
Abstract: A digitally wavelength tunable optical filter system is analysed for timing performance. This digitally tunable optical filter system was recently proposed, it utilized semiconductor optical amplifiers, wavelength selection elements, splitters, combiners and optical fibers for achieving filtering action. This paper presents a theory for calculating transmission/delay times of different wavelengths. The delay time equations are derived for all center wavelengths of the filter. These transmission time calculations can be used …

Electrical Tunability of Transmission Spectrum in 1D Ternary Photonic Band Gap StructuresBy Anirudh Banerjee
Abstract: AbstractElectrical tunability of transmission spectrum in 1D Ternary Photonic Band Gap (PBG) structures is studied in this paper. The electro-optic effect can be used to change the refractive index of the constituent material layers of the structure to tune the transmission spectrum. Use of electrical tuning in PBG structure offers the advantages of fast tuning speed, ease of computer controllability etc. The electro-optic effect based tuning will be faster than …
