Mechanical and Thermal Performance of PETG Composites Reinforced with Short Carbon Fibers via Fused Filament Fabrication
Abstract: The study investigates the fabrication and characterization of polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) composites reinforced with short carbon fibers (CF) using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) technique. Composite filaments with varying CF weight fractions (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%) were produced and evaluated for their mechanical, thermal, and morphological performance. The influence of CF reinforcement on tensile, flexural, and impact behavior was systematically examined, alongside thermal stability metrics including …

Structure-Property-Process Relationships in BNNS-Modified PEEK Nanocomposites for High-Performance Applications
Abstract: This study reports the design and performance evaluation of boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS)-reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) nanocomposites fabricated using melt compounding and high-temperature Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). PEEK, a high-performance thermoplastic, was reinforced with BNNS at 0.5–5wt.% to enhance mechanical, thermal, and tribological functionalities for advanced engineering use. Composite filaments were extruded and printed using a modified Bambu Lab FFF printer. Mechanical testing revealed a peak tensile strength of 108 MPa …

Influence of Carbonyl Iron Particle Loading on the Dimensional and Rheological Properties of 4D-Printed TPU-Based Magnetorheological Elastomers
Abstract: The advancement of 4D printing technologies has created new opportunities for fabricating smart materials with tunable properties, including magnetorheological elastomers (MREs). This study investigates the fabrication and characterization of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)-based MREs with varying carbonyl iron particle (CIP) loadings (10–50 wt.%) using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) method. MRE filaments were produced through a solvent-assisted mixing and extrusion process, ensuring consistent diameters within 1.75 ± 0.10 mm. Test specimens …

Investigation of Mechanical and Thermal Behavior of Glass Fiber–Enhanced PEEK Parts Produced via Fused Filament Fabrication
Abstract: This study investigates the thermal and mechanical properties of Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer and Glass Fiber (GF) reinforced PEEK polymer fabricated using the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) process. Specimens were printed in three building orientations—X, Y, and 45°—to evaluate the influence of layer deposition on polymer material performance. Tensile and flexural tests revealed that GF-PEEK polymer exhibited significantly higher Ultimate Tensile Strength (110 MPa in X-orientation), Young's Modulus (4.5 GPa), and …

Effect of Carbonyl Iron Particle Concentration on The Printability and Stiffness of Magnetorheological Elastomer Filaments
Abstract: Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) are increasingly valued for their field-responsive mechanical properties, making them ideal for adaptive components in automotive, aerospace, and vibration control systems. However, conventional mould-based fabrication methods limit design flexibility, produce excess material waste, and are unsuitable for complex or customized geometries caused challenges that have hindered broader industrial adoption. Although 3D printing offers a compelling alternative, research on printable MRE filaments remains limited, particularly regarding how carbonyl …
