Understanding the Delamination and Its Effect on Charpy Impact Energy in Thick Wall Linepipe Steel
Abstract: The thick wall linepipes produced from thermo-mechanical-controlled hot-rolled high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) plates are characterized by heterogeneity of microstructures through thickness. This microstructural heterogeneity results delamination and is responsible for substantial differences in the toughness behavior of the linepipe steel. The objective of this research work was to investigate these differences in impact energy using Charpy V-notch impact test in correlation with microscopic observations on fractured surfaces of the selected …

Behavior of Sandwich Composites under Edgewise and Flatwise Compression; Effect of Variation of Fibre Architecture and Core Density
Abstract: The present paper is focused on the fabrication of foam–cored sandwich composites using manual hand layup technique and testing under in-plane compression. The sandwich construction comprises of polyurethane foams of five varied densities with E-glass fibre in vinylester resin as face sheets. Four different varieties of E-glass fibre are used. As compression properties are of critical importance during the design of lightweight structures, an attempt is made to study the …

Drilling of Composite Materials: A Review
Abstract: In today’s world composites are replacing metals due to their superior properties such as light weight; low wear rate etc. Composites are widely used in automobile, aerospace and aircraft structural components. While drilling composite laminates, because of high hardness, they are difficult to machine, which results in low drilling efficiency and undesirable drilling induced delamination. The present paper is intended to focus on review of various works reported on drilling …

Drilling Effect on Fiber Composites: A Review
Abstract: Composites laminates show immense mechanical properties like strength-to-weight ratio, damage tolerance, fatigue and corrosion resistance therefore conventional materials are replaced by composites in many areas such as automobile and aircraft structure. Machining of composites is very difficult than machining of a conventional material because composites are inhomogeneous and extremely abrasive. In production drilling is important machining process used to produce hole for riveted and bolted joint. There are many improvements …
