Process Plant Simulations Using MATLAB
Abstract: This paper explains the systematic procedure to perform steady state process simulations of process plants using MATLAB. This procedure is illustrated with ethylacetate production process. Sequential modular approach is used to solve the material and enthalpy balance calculations in the flowsheet. Phase equilibrium behaviour plots and sensitivity analysis plots are drawn using MATLAB. Results obtained are compared with the ASPEN PLUS V8.8 simulation results.

Waste Minimization in Cumene Production Process
Abstract: This study deals with waste minimization in cumene production process using WAR (Waste Reduction Algorithm). Initially cumene production process is designed using ASPEN PLUS V8.8 chemical process simulator. Using WAR algorithm PEI’s (Potential Environmental Impacts) are calculated. Based on the PEI values process modifications are suggested to minimize the PEI’s. The modified process is eco-friendly by reducing the waste by 29.9%.

Binary Distillation Design and Control
Abstract: This paper discusses design and control strategies of binary distillation process using ASPEN PLUS V8.8 simulating tool. Steady state design procedure for binary distillation column design to separate acrolein and propylene is explained. Dynamic simulations were conducted by designing control structure. The developed control structure contains level controllers, pressure controllers and temperature controllers. The developed control structure has shown good performance in withstanding the various process disturbances.

Sustainable Production of Drying Oil using ASPEN PLUS
Abstract: This original research work discusses the sustainable design of drying oil production process using ASPEN PLUS V8.8. Waste reduction analysis studies using WAR (Waste Reduction algorithm) at the early design stage is performed to minimize the waste or pollution by taking better design decisions in the process. Energy analysis is carried out for the entire process and it is observed that 48.92% of energy can be saved for the base …
