Harnessing Hydropower Energy Devices for Nigerian Water Bodies

  1. Samuel Edet Bassey

Abstract

Energy consumption in Nigeria is relatively high requiring alternative sources of power generation. In order to achieve a sustainable and renewable and cheap energy production, a decentralized energy generation is the clue as long distance transmission of this energy has proven to be unstable. A closer look on Nigeria’s hydrological map suggests the inclusion of the lower river basins into the energy generation plan. This makes the construction of a small hydropower plant in these basins a necessity. The coastal basins are also good network of energy source yet to be harnessed in the country, having these two basins harnessed the energy insufficiency of the nation can be addressed effectively. Hence, the combined solution will yield greater significance.
