Cement reinforced polypropylene based composite material has shown significant potential for industrial applications recently. This work is in line with the material design and fabrication of metal-skinned sandwich panels; an application of the cement filled polypropylene composite material. Different compositions of cement filled composite materials are selected and few metal-skinned sandwich panels are fabricated where aluminum (Al) and galvanized iron (GI) sheets are used as skin materials. Several experiments are conducted with the metal skinned sandwich panels and the results are evaluated in-depth to understand its feasibility for structural applications. Mechanical characteristics such as bending and tensile properties along with forced vibration characteristics of the sandwich panels (both GI and Al skins) have been studied. The proposed sandwich panels are proved to be much more beneficial as it reduces the overall weight of the structural body suitable for various automotive industrial applications.
