Postharvest Quality and Longevity of Gerbera Varieties as Affected by Different Floral Preservatives
Abstract: Gerbera, Gerbera jamesonii of Asteraceae family is grown for garden decoration, cut flowers and stands at fourth position in international flower market. Cut gerbera flowers are sensitive to microbial contamination, insufficient water uptake and short vase life. Use of sucrose with organic acids as preservative solution may help to increase the postharvest life of cut flowers. So, an experiment was conducted in the Horticulture Laboratory of Lamjung Campus during January …

Effect of Split Application of N and K Fertilizer and Bagging on the Growth, Yield and Post-Harvest Quality of Banana
Abstract: AbstractThe experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jamalpur Bangladesh from January, 2013 to December, 2013. The effect of split application of N and K as well as bagging was considered on growth and yield of banana. The treatments were—Factor-A: Split application of N and K: T1=2-split (2 months after planting+at shooting); T2=3-split (2 months after planting+3.5 months after planting+at shooting); T3=4-split (2 months after planting+3.5 months after …

Comparison of Indigenous-Based Edible Skin Coating Materials (SCMs) and Imported Wax (Citrashine®) on the Post-Harvest Quality and Shelf Life of (Citrus reticulata Blanco) Mandarins
Abstract: Pakistan is the largest mandarin producing and exporting country across the globe. All the wax used by the citrus industry of Pakistan is currently being imported costing a valuable foreign reserve. The Post-Harvest Research Center (PHRC), Faisalabad, Pakistan prepared two edible skin coating materials (SCMs) as an alternative to the imported wax. Therefore, this research was devised to compare the effects of these indigenous-based edible SCMs with those of an …

Development and Effectiveness of Lipid–Polysaccharide Conglomerated Composite Edible Coating to Enhance Postharvest Life of Whole Muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) var. Ravi
Abstract: Lipids can be combined with polysaccharides to create conglomerated composite edible coatings in which the components are interspersed throughout the coating. An experimental lipid–polysaccharide conglomerated composite (LPCC) edible coating was developed from lipids (vegetable oils and resins) and polysaccharides (gum Arabic, CMC). Whole muskmelons (var. Ravi) were coated with LPCC edible coating by spraying method and stored at 12±2 ºC with 90–95% relative humidity. The effectiveness of LPCC edible coating …

Harnessing Ethylene and Brassinosteroids for Enhanced Agricultural Productivity and Food Quality
Abstract: This study provides a comprehensive review of the roles of ethylene and brassinosteroids, two vital hormonal regulators in plants, focusing on their impact on fruit ripening, stress responses, and overall plant growth. Ethylene, a gaseous plant hormone, is recognized as a key regulator in various physiological processes, particularly in the maturation of fruits. Its involvement in the ripening process has profound implications for agricultural practices, as it directly influences the …

Optimizing Mango Harvest Timing in the Nasik Region (Maharashtra, India) by CNNs (Residual Network 101)
Abstract: The determination of optimal harvest timing is one of the most critical decisions in mango production, directly affecting postharvest quality, market value, transportation resilience, and export readiness. In regions such as Nashik, Maharashtra—one of India’s major fruit- producing belts—the climatic variability, cultivar differences, monsoon patterns, and market- driven pressures make accurate harvest timing essential. Traditional maturity assessment relies on subjective visual inspection, specific gravity, or destructive testing, each of which …

Assessment of Pre and Post Harvest Handling Practices of Mango Fruit in Arba Minch, Southern Ethiopia
Abstract: Postharvest losses of mango fruits cause huge economic, food and nutritive losses in developing countries. One of the major causes of such losses is poor postharvest handling practices. Observationally study was conducted to assess the awareness of the farmers about the pre and postharvest handling practices causing postharvest loss of mango fruit. From the Arba Minch Zuria Woreda, two administrative Kebeles viz. ‘Chano’ and ‘Lante’ were purposively selected. 80 respondents …

Optimization Of Solar Drying Parameters for Turmeric and Papaya Leaves: Effects on Nutritional and Bioactive Compound Retention
Abstract: This study focuses on the optimization of solar drying parameters for turmeric and papaya leaves, based on their impact on retention of nutritional and bioactive compounds. One of the most crucial postharvest procedures is solar drying as it decreases the moisture content in plant materials, thereby increasing shelf life and preserving quality. This study considers traditional methods as open sun drying (OSD) and advanced solar dry techniques, including Hybrid Indirect …

Ethylene in Post-harvest Quality Management of Horticultural Crops: A Review
Abstract: Ethylene is a naturally occurring plant hormone that is produced by many fruits and vegetables. It initiates the ripening process when internal concentrations increase to 0.1 to 1.0 ppm. Externally applied ethylene can also initiate the ripening process in climacteric fruits. Ethylene is flammable at a concentration of 3.1–32% in air. The minimum flammable concentration of 3.1% or 31,000 ppm is about 200 times the concentration suggested for tomato ripening. …
