Studies on the Seasonal Variations and Microhabitat Utilization of Anuran Population in Agroecosystems of Tranquebar Taluk Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu, India
Abstract: Habitat loss and fragmentation are among the largest threats to amphibian populations. In the present study, we intended to explore the amphibian population density (diversity) in three different seasons (Thaladi, Kuruvai and Samba) at five different habitats (Cultivable, Non-cultivable, Pond, Dry pond, and Grassland) in Cauvery delta region during the period 2016 to 2017. The Visual Encounter Survey Method (VES) was adopted in this study and amphibians were recorded in …

Isolation and Identification of Mycoflora from Floor Dust Via Non-culturable and Culturable Method: A Case Study of Indoor Atmospheric Quality (IAQ)
Abstract: The concentration of fungal genera in the floor dust was studied by culturable and non-culturable methods. A total of eight fungal genera were isolated and identified out of which two were characterized by non-culturable method, one with culturable method and other five were common for both the methods. The predominant genera were Aspergillus, Cladosporium Penicillium, Fusarium and Curvularia. From the comparative data obtained from culturable and non-culturable fungal concentration it …

Morphological Characterization of Two Species of the Freshwater Fish Genus Dawkinsia (Osteichthyes: Cyprinidae), with Emphasis on Stream Habitat Characteristics
Abstract: AbstractMacro and microhabitat analyses were carried out for two cyprinid fishes of Dawkinsia sp., (D. filamentosa and D. tambraparniei) from the two selected rivers of South Indian river system (Thalayanai and Gadana). Macrohabitat features such as habitat structure and types; and microhabitat features such as stream depth, width, riparian cover, instream cover and substrates were studied. Suitable microhabitats for D. filamentosa were shallow, marginal waters of rivers and for D. …

Xenopsylla cheopis and Plague: Biology, Transmission, and Control
Abstract: Xenopsylla cheopis, the oriental rat flea, remains the most important vector of Yersinia pestis in classical rodent–flea–human plague cycles. Its biology is tightly adapted to commensal rats, especially Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus, whose nests provide microhabitats that support all pre adult stages and favour persistent flea populations near humans. The flea’s holometabolous life cycle, including the capacity for prolonged pupal quiescence and opportunistic host-seeking by adults, underpins its ability …
