Performance Evaluation of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete: A Comparative Study with Conventional Concrete
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has driven the exploration of alternative aggregates such as coconut shells in geopolymer concrete. This study investigates the characteristics and performance of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete (GPCSC) and compares it with traditional Geopolymer Conventional Concrete (GPCC). Both mixes were evaluated for workability, density, and compressive strength at 3, 7, and 28 days. The slump values for GPCSC and GPCC were 10 mm and …

Enhancing Mechanical and Durability Properties of Coconut Shell Concrete Using Fly Ash
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable and lightweight construction materials has driven research into alternative aggregates for concrete production. This study investigates the mechanical and durability properties of coconut shell (CS) concrete with varying percentages of fly ash replacement. The research evaluates compressive strength, split tensile strength, water absorption, and workability to determine the feasibility of CS concrete as a structural material. Experimental findings indicate that incorporating 10% fly ash (CSF10 …

M-Sand and coconut shells can partially substitute natural sand and coarse aggregate in a concrete mix
Abstract: This study explores a green approach to concrete production by using coconut shells and Manufactured Sand (M-Sand) as partial substitutes for traditional coarse aggregates and natural sand. Additionally, it investigates the role of silica in enhancing concrete properties. Coconut shells, often seen as waste, are utilized as lightweight aggregates, reducing the need for heavy natural aggregates. M-Sand replaces some of the natural sand, conserving this resource and reducing carbon emissions. …

Optimizing Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene Fibre-Reinforced Coconut Shell Concrete
Abstract: This study investigates the impact of polypropylene (PP) fibre reinforcement on the mechanical properties of coconut shell (CS) concrete. The compressive strength of CS concrete is primarily governed by the strength of CS aggregates, with early-age failure attributed to poor bonding and later-stage failure influenced by aggregate strength. The incorporation of PP fibres significantly enhanced compressive, tensile, and flexural strength. At 28 days, compressive strength increased by 1.2–3.45% in CSF …

Influence of Agricultural Waste Materials in Concrete: A Sustainable Approach
Abstract: Urbanization and resource depletion have intensified the need for sustainable alternatives to traditional construction materials. The concrete industry, a major contributor to environmental issues due to cement production, is turning to waste materials to mitigate its impact. This review paper focuses on the use of agricultural waste as a partial replacement for cement and aggregates in high-strength concrete (HSC), with an emphasis on its influence on both fresh and hardened …
