Development and Characterization of Self-Healing Polyurethane Nanocomposite Coatings Incorporating Microencapsulated Corrosion Inhibitors for Marine Environments
Abstract: Chloride ions, dissolved oxygen, moisture and cyclic mechanical damage all infiltrate protective coatings and cause localized corrosion to occur in marine steel structures, resulting in continuous degradation. In this study, a self-healing polyurethane nanocomposite coating is developed by using microencapsulated corrosion inhibitors and the formulation effects are investigated using the Response Surface Methodology and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy techniques. Using a Box-Behnken design, loading of microcapsules and hexagonal boron nitride nanofiller, …

Bio-inspired Thermo-responsive and Self-Healing Polymer–PCM Hybrids for Next-Generation Smart Textile Applications
Abstract: The integration of phase change materials (PCMs) into flexible polymers represents a promising strategy for developing smart textiles with advanced thermal regulation and mechanical adaptability. However, the challenges of PCM leakage, poor mechanical strength, and durability under cyclic stress have limited their practical applications. In this study, we present a novel self-healing and elastic composite based on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) incorporating 30 wt% microencapsulated PCM (mPCM) and dynamic disulfide bonds …

Enhancement of healing capability of polyurethane with Bis-propargyl-succinate
Abstract: This study focuses on a preliminary healing ability consisting of a healing agent (bis-propargyl-succinate, BPS) injected into a curing polymer (glycidyl azide polymer-based polyurethane, GAP-based PU) via “azide-alkyne” click. The preliminary healing behavior of BPS injected GAP-based PU is investigated. The stress at break of BPS injected GAP-based PU is in the range of 0.169 – 0.218 MPa comparing with 0.244 MPa of GAP-based PU, and the highest preliminary healing …

Thermally Trigged Self-Healing Smart Shape Memory Polymer Composite
Abstract: Temperature-responsive self-actuating PU/MWCNTs composites were prepared with micro-compounder through in-situ polymerization. For making of 1CNTPU composite sample 1 part per hundred multiwall Carbone nanotubes (MWCNTs) were reinforced into the neat polyurethane (PU) base matrix. Surface characterizations for pure and composite have studying by using Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), high resolutions Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Properties like shape recovery, storage modulus, loss modulus, tensile stress, degree of hardness, and flexural stress …
