Association of Metabolic Syndrome with Cholelithiasis in Female Patients and Its Impact on Clinical Management and Surgical Outcome
Abstract: Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, which may predispose to gallstone formation. This study aimed to evaluate the association between MetS and cholelithiasis in female patients and to assess its impact on clinical presentation, surgical difficulty, and postoperative outcomes. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 88 female patients with ultrasonography-confirmed cholelithiasis. Patients were divided into two groups: MetS (n=44) and non-MetS …

A prospective investigation into seroma monitoring and skin flap anchoring following Mastectomy
Abstract: Breast cancer remains a significant global health challenge, often necessitating life-saving mastectomy surgeries. However, post-mastectomy complications—such as seroma formation and skin flap necrosis—can still impact a patient’s recovery and overall quality of life. This prospective study examines the effectiveness of seroma monitoring and skin flap anchoring following mastectomy in reducing these problems. Few prospective studies addressing these particular concerns were found in a thorough literature assessment. To fill this void, …

Clinical study of ERAS programs for chronic anal diseases
Abstract: Background: ERAS protocols were implemented for the management of chronic anal diseases in our clinical setting.Patients and Methods: The clinical outcomes of these ERAS programs were systematically analyzed. Results: Our study revealed significant improvements with the implemented ERAS protocols. Specifically, the average time for healing with these protocols was 7.9±0.76 days, notably shorter compared to the previous standard protocols which averaged 14.3±0.4 days. Moreover, there was a marked reduction in …

Comprehensive Review on Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting Following General Anesthesia
Abstract: Postoperative nausea and vomiting, often known as PONV, is a common and uncomfortable consequence that occurs after general anesthesia. Patients of all ages are susceptible to experiencing this condition. Even though there have been advances in anaesthesia procedures and treatments, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) continues to be a serious concern since it has the potential to cause patients to experience discomfort, delay their recovery, extend their hospital stays, and …

Versatile Use of the Local Muscle Flaps Pedicled by Gastrocnemius and Hemisoleus Muscle with a Longer Reach for Coverage of Lower Extremity Defects
Abstract: Purpose: This study aims to highlight the clinical usefulness of multiple local muscle flaps pedicled on the gastrocnemius and hemisoleus muscles for managing soft-tissue defects of the lower extremity. The technique was applied to defects involving the distal femur and the distal one-third of the tibia, avoiding the need for free flap reconstruction. Methods: From January 2014 to January 2023, multiple local muscle flaps were planned and utilized for the …

Impact on Mobility and Mortality in Minimally Invasive Surgeries
Abstract: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) presents numerous advantages such as fewer complications, shorter hospital admissions, and reduced patient discomfort. This surgical method has progressed significantly, with laparoscopy being one of its earliest applications. Laparoscopy involves the insertion of miniature cameras and instruments through small incisions. Robotic-assisted surgery, another form of MIS, enhances surgical precision and offers a three-dimensional view. With technological developments, MIS has gained widespread acceptance among both surgeons and …

Impact Of Nurse-Led Pain Management Protocol On Postoperative Recovery Outcome
Abstract: Postoperative pain remains a critical determinant of recovery outcomes, influencing patient satisfaction, complication rates, and overall healthcare utilization. Nurse-led pain management protocols have emerged as an evidence-based strategy to enhance postoperative care through continuous assessment, individualized interventions, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This article explores the impact of nurse-led pain management on postoperative recovery outcomes, including pain reduction, early mobilization, decreased hospital stay, and improved patient satisfaction. Evidence from recent studies demonstrates …

Role of the Surgical-Ward Nurse in Identifying, Escalating, and Managing Postoperative Anastomotic Leak in Colorectal Patients: A Narrative Synthesis in an Australian Nursing Perspective
Abstract: Purpose: Postoperative colorectal anastomotic leak (AL) is one of the most feared complications after colorectal surgery because of its association with sepsis, reoperation, mortality, prolonged hospital stay, delayed adjuvant therapy, and permanent stoma formation. This narrative practice review outlines the frontline role of surgical-ward nurses in the early identification, escalation, and interim management of AL within the Australian acute-care context. Methods: A narrative synthesis of contemporary consensus statements, systematic reviews, …

Optimizing Anesthesia for Major Surgery: The Role of Sequential Combined Spinal-Epidural Technique
Abstract: The Combined Spinal Epidural (CSE) approach has been widely employed over the last decade because it achieves rapid onset and substantial blockage while also allowing for the modification or prolongation of the block. Background: Sequential spinal-epidural anesthesia (SSEA) combines the rapid onset and dense blockade of spinal anesthesia with the prolonged duration and adjustable analgesia of epidural anesthesia. This technique is particularly beneficial in major surgeries requiring prolonged operative time …

Abstract: Post-operative sore throat (POST) is a common issue after endotracheal intubation and can reduce patient comfort and hinder recovery. This randomized, double-blind clinical study investigated how effective pre-operative nebulized lidocaine, dexmedetomidine, and their combination are in minimizing POST. Eligible adult patients classified as ASA I–II and scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia were randomly assigned to three groups. Nebulization was administered 15–20 minutes before induction using standardized dosing and …
