Studies On The Length-Weight Relationship And Morphometric Characteristics of Rohu, Labeo Rohita (Hamilton) From Pond In Radhamohanpur, Jirania, Tripura, India
Abstract: The present study describes the length–weight (LWR) relationship and morphometric characters of 30 specimens of the rohu, Labeo rohita (Hamilton) collected from the pond situated in Radhamohanpur, Jirania, Tripura, India over a period of six months extending from (January 2020-June 2020). The fish were caught by traditional fishing gear. Total length (TL) reading has been taken from Vernier Calliper and Body weight (BW) measured with digital balance. The readings of …

Sublethal Toxic Effect of Paraquat Dichloride on Tissue Biochemical Markers in Labeo rohita
Abstract: The present study investigated the sublethal toxic effect of the commercial grade herbicide, Paraquat dichloride (24% SL), on Labeo rohita stressing the importance on biochemical parameters. Fishes were exposed to the sublethal concentrations of paraquat dichloride (5 μg/l and 10 μg/l) for 24 h in treated groups. Treated groups showed highly changed biochemical parameters on their exposure to the herbicide paraquat, when compared to the control. Tissues such as brain, …

Assessment of Hepatic Damage in Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822) Exposed to Azo dye C. I. Direct Green 6
Abstract: Textile industries are one of the major backbones of Indian economy. They are the major reason for contamination of water bodies and their toxicity to ecosystem is an alarming environmental issue. The present study was designed to evaluate the hepatotoxic effects of C.I. Direct Green 6 (DG 6), a commercially used textile azo dye on Labeo rohita fingerlings. For this, L. rohita fingerlings were exposed to three sublethal concentrations (2.5, …

Histotoxicity of Acid Orange 7 on organs of Fresh water fish Labeo rohita
Abstract: The present paper reports the histotoxic effects of Acid Orange 7, an azo dye on the tissues viz. gill, kidney and liver in major carp, Labeo rohita, fingerlings. The sublethal concentrations of the dye are responsible for the histopathological alterations in the target tissues. In the gills hyperplasia, epithelial lifting, hooked secondary gill lamellae, haemorrhage in the primary gill lamellae and erosion of secondary gill lamellae were seen. The kidney …

Acute Toxicity, Morphological Changes and Behavioral Responses Induced by Sodium Perfluorooctanoate in Indian Major Carp Labeo rohita (Ham.)
Abstract: Sodium perfluorooctanoate (NaPFO) is an anthropogenic ubiquitous environmental pollutant mainly used in textile, paper and ink industries, for specialized usage as emulsifiers, firefighting foam, lubricants etc. It finds entry into aquatic ecosystem through effluents from these industries. Static renewal bioassay test was conducted to determine 96 h LC50 of NaPFO on Indian major carp, Labeo rohita. The behavioral and morphological alterations in fingerlings were observed critically during the whole experiment …

Post-harvest handling and quality loss of Indian major carps in the distribution channel of Noakhali district, Bangladesh
Abstract: Post-harvest loss of mrigal (Cirrhinus cirrhosus), catla (Catla catla), rohu (Labeo rohita) and kalibaush (Labeo calbasu) in different distribution channel of Noakhali district, Bangladesh were observed during the month of January 2015 to April 2015. Sensory evaluation method was adopted in order to gather information about quality loss of fish and existing handling condition at different stakeholder level. The observed fish were fresh at fisherman level but as the day …

Assessing the Diversity of Migratory Fishes in the Shivnath River, Chhattisgarh, India
Abstract: The Shivnath River, a major tributary of the Mahanadi River in Chhattisgarh, India, is home to various migratory fish species. These fish are vital to the river’s ecosystem and provide important sources of income and food for local communities. This study looks at the diversity, distribution, and conservation status of these migratory fish species in the Shivnath River. Through extensive field surveys, researchers identified 10 migratory fish species in the …

Impact of Specially Prepared Food on Indian Big Carp Growth in West Bengal, India’s Cooch Behar District
Abstract: This four-year longitudinal study (2008–2012) in the Cooch Behar District of West Bengal, India, utilized on-farm ponds to evaluate the comparative growth performance of Indian Major Carps (IMCs) – Catla catla, Labeo rohita, and Cirrhinus mrigala – when subjected to four distinct supplementary feed formulations: fishmeal (A), soybean meal (B), silkworm pupae (C), and mustard oilcake (D). The experimental design contrasted treated ponds receiving formulated feed against control ponds relying …

Assessment of Suitability of Inland Wetland Fishes in Gujarat, India, for Human Consumption: A Focus on Organochlorine Pesticides
Abstract: The work described in this study evaluated the organochlorine pesticide (OCP) residues in the inland wetland fishes of Gujarat, India, and their suitability for human consumption. Among the various OCPs analyzed, isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), γ-HCH and β-HCH were detected in 70%–80% of samples. The p,p’-DDE, metabolites of DDT were detected in higher load. Of the nine species of fishes tested, the maximum load of ∑HCH and ∑DDT was recorded …
