Understanding Geomagnetic Storms Through ACE/EPAM Data in the Recent Solar Cycle
Abstract: We share our research on the effects of geomagnetic storms on Earth's climate throughout the solar cycle. We use the Kp index value from ACE and several other observatories to comprehend the impact of the geomagnetic storm in this instance. A geomagnetic storm is indicated by a value of 5 or higher on the K-index, which uses an integer between 0 and 9 to quantify disturbances in the horizontal component …

A Study of Geomagnetic Storms and Associated Solar Flares
Abstract: Geomagnetic storms are temporal disturbances of the earth’s magnetosphere caused by a prolonged southward interplanetary magnetic field and usually coinciding with the arrival of coronal mass ejections (CME). Most geomagnetic storms occur under disturbed condition making it intrinsically uneasy to distinguish one geomagnetic storm from another especially in respect of solar origin. Thirty four (34) geomagnetic storms occurring between 1997 and 2012 have been studied whose storms signatures could be …

On the Associations of Solar Wind Parameters with Geomagnetic H Components during Intense Geomagnetic Storms
Abstract: Associations of geomagnetic H component with solar wind speed and pressure were studied using high resolution (minute) data and applying the method of cross correlation analysis. We analyzed these associations during 74 geomagnetic storms with Dst ≤ -100 nT in solar cycle 23 in view to investigate if the associations vary with the pattern of semiannual variation of geomagnetic storms, it’s intensity and phase of the solar cycle. The results …

H-Component residual Geomagnetic field variation at low and equatorial stations during the geomagnetic storm of May 29-31, 2003
Abstract: The variation of the H-component residual geomagnetic field during the storm of 29-31 May, 2003 has been studied for features of induced current at low and equatorial stations. Five stations (three from the Indian chain of stations) lying close to the dip equator but within less than 7 hrours apart were used to investigate the nature of the response of the ground stations to possible induced fields other than the …

On the Contribution of E- and D-Layer to Weak Geomagnetic Storm Events in South Africa
Abstract: Data from five ionosonde in Southern Africa have been analyzed to better appreciate the contributions of the E- and D-layers of the ionosphere in this region to weak geomagnetic storms. This attempt to quantify the exact contributions of the D and E-layers to weak geomagnetic storms during period of relatively quiet Sun has never been done in this region before. The results suggest that the E-layers contribute more than the …

Study of Energy Injection during Intense and Super Intense Geomagnetic Storm Driven by Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)
Abstract: We have studied the energy injection process associated with CME driven storms that occurred during 18th February 1998, 4th May 1998, 16th July 2000 and 20th November 2003. The energy injection efficiency was parameterized by the ԑ parameter as a measure of the energy transfer of solar wind into the magnetosphere; we observed that intensification of ring current (Dst) depends on the energy injection into the magnetosphere and the duration …

An Insight into Sub Storm Dynamics of Magnetosphere and its Effects on H Component of The Earth
Abstract: Geomagnetic storms, substorms and their impacts on the magnitude of H component of earth were studied during the event of August, October and November, 2003. For this, a high level fluxgate digital magnetometer was used to record and analyze this event at southern subauroral localized region (Geomagnetic latitude 62ºS and longitude 52.8ºE) at ‘MAITRI’ station. Our findings show that the time magnitude of H component of earth before commencement of …

Statistical Analysis of Geomagnetic Activity and Solar Activity Features during Solar Cycle 23 & 24
Abstract: We present a statistical analysis of the geomagnetic storm (GMSs) with the solar activity features (Sunspot number (SN), H-α flare and coronal mass ejection (CME)) during solar cycle 23 and 24. Sunspot number (SN) shows good correlation with peak values of GMSs indices (correlations coefficient R= 0.76) while CME(R=0.59) and H-α (R=0.55) show moderate correlation. So we conclude that GMSs have good correlation with solar activity features during major geomagnetic …
