Effectiveness of Extensional Damping Using Rubber as Layer
Abstract: Structural damping treatments are free layer damping and constrained layer damping, made of metal and viscoelastic layer combinations which help to reduce vibrations. A free layer damping (FLD) treatment also known as Extensional Damping is formed by applying a coating of a damping material to one side of a structure. The treatment may be symmetric or asymmetric, and applied to beams, plates or shells in bending or in tension. In …

Effect of Geometry, Material and Blank Holder Force on Formability of BIW parts
Abstract: The major constituent of any car body consists of about 400 sheet metal stamped parts. Geometry and material of these parts is not uniform. In order to design these parts for any car, it is essential to know how these parts are manufactured. During our study of the manufacturing processes of these parts, we found that the part designs are repeatedly sent back to the body design team for change …

Review on Unconstrained Layer Damping Treatment and Its Applications
Abstract: The unconstrained layer damping is also called as free layer damping. It is formed by applying a damping material on the surface of a structure. This treatment was used to reduce and control the vibrations and noise in structures. This paper presents a review on unconstrained layer damping treatment on beams using different damping materials. The objective is to present various aspects and relative merits of unconstrained damping treatment use …
