Design and Development of Electromagnetic Braking System Based on Electromagnetic Induction and Eddy Current
Abstract: In this paper, electromagnetic braking system has been developed that ensures passenger’s, driver’s and other road user’s safety and comfort. Most of the conventional braking system like mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic have certain limitations. In mechanical brake, erosion of the mechanical pads is carried out by frictional force and requires periodic replacement of the bearing. Fluid leakage in hydraulic and pneumatic could lead to brake failure and reduces the effectiveness of …

Intelligent Electromagnetic Braking System
Abstract: AbstractThe principle of conventional braking system involves the conversion of kinetic energy into heat. It uses development of contact friction for retardation. When the brake is applied, the brake shoes having a friction material lining are forced by hydraulic wheel cylinders against the inner surface of a rotating drum. The result of this contact produces friction, enabling the vehicle to slow down and stop. The design consideration is such that …

Electromagnetic Disc Braking with Smart Assistant
Abstract: Electro-mechanical disc brakes are electrically actuated, yet mechanically transmit torque. The magnetic flux attracts the armature to the face of the brake when power is applied to the coil of an electromagnet. It squeezes the inner and outer friction discs together as it does so. The design of an electromagnetic disc brake requires a multidisciplinary approach. Its performance is an outcome of the usage of concepts from various fields, viz. …

Development of Electro-Magnetic Anti-Lock Brake System: An Idea
Abstract: Since the invention of automobiles, many brake mechanisms have been developed and tested, but the foot-operated friction brakes, actuated by hydraulic pressure have been prominently used. This paper explores and proposes an alternative to conventional braking system, in which, in place of a hydraulic unit, an electro-magnetic setup is proposed to make the complete braking system compact, light and efficient. The proposed system is a hybrid brake setup, which uses …
