Dermatophytoses: Taxonomy, Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, Resistance, and Management.
Abstract: Dermatophytes, belonging to the family Arthrodermataceae, are keratinophilic fungi responsible for superficial mycoses. Dermatophytoses affect the skin, hair, and nails globally. Over the last few years, dermatophytic infections have seen a sharp rise in India, with the main causative agent being antifungal-resistant Trichophyton mentagrophytes genotype VIII. This review provides a detailed overview of dermatophytoses, including taxonomy, pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Dermatophytes belong to the kingdom Fungi, family Arthrodermataceae, with …

Topical Luliconazole for the Management of Fungal Infections: A Review
Abstract: Luliconazole, an antifungal agent of the imidazole class, possesses a distinctive structure where the imidazole component is fused with the ketene dithioacetate configuration. It exists in its R-enantiomer form, which exhibits greater antifungal efficacy compared to lanoconazole, a compound comprising a racemic blend. Strong action is shown by luliconazole against filamentous fungi, such as dermatophytes. The pharmacokinetic characteristics of dermatophytes, such as Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum gypseum, help explain why …

Epidemiology and Mycological Analysis of Superficial Mycosis in a Northern Indian Tertiary Care Hospital
Abstract: Background: A fungal infection that affects the outer layer of the skin and its connective tissue, including hair and nails, is called superficial mycosis. These infections are typically caused by fungi, which thrive on keratin, the proteinthat makes up the nails, hair, and skin. A common disease that can affect people of any age, gender, or race is superficial mycosis. Usually, it appears as a streaky red rash that can …

Veterinary Mycology: Fungal Infections in Livestock and Companion Animals
Abstract: Fungal infections represent a significant yet often underestimated challenge in veterinary medicine, affecting both livestock and companion animals. Veterinary mycology encompasses a diverse group of pathogens, including yeasts, molds, dimorphic fungi, and dermatophytes, that can cause localized or systemic diseases with substantial health, economic, and zoonotic implications. In livestock species, such as cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, pigs, horses, and camels, fungal infections manifest as dermatophytosis, mycotic mastitis, aspergillosis, keratomycosis, and …

Assessing the Impact of Topical Steroids on Tinea Infections: An Epidemiological Investigation
Abstract: This retrospective epidemiological study investigates the prevalence and characteristics of modified tinea infections resulting from the use of topical steroids. Analyzing patient records from October 2022 at ‘District General Hospital, Amravati, the study reveals a significant association between topical steroid use and altered clinical features in 89% of cases. Factors such as steroid potency, duration of use, and specific tinea subtypes affected contribute to understanding the epidemiology of modified tinea …

Microbes: A General Review
Abstract: The exploration of microbes has been a vibrant field of study for over 250 years. Microbiology, in particular, has made significant strides in recent decades, enabling precise diagnosis and treatment of numerous infectious diseases. Today, infectious diseases continue to pose challenges for human health. To mitigate the risks of various infections, there is a growing emphasis on enhancing the production and utilization of antibiotics, which are synthesized from microbial sources. …
