Mapping of Land Use/Land Cover Changes in Upper Ponnaiyar Watershed, Tamil Nadu: A Remote Sensing and GIS Approach
Abstract: Land use and land cover is an important element in understanding the interactions of human activities with the environment and thus it is necessary to assess changes. Experiential observation revealed that changes have occurred in land use/land cover and hence an attempt is made to study the changes in land use and land cover in upper Ponnaiyar river basin over a period of 40 years (1973–2013). The study carried out …

Extraction of High Resolution DEM from Cartosat-1 Stereo Imagery using Rational Math Model and Its Accuracy Assessment for a Part of Snow Covered NW-Himalaya
Abstract: This paper reports the experiments carried out for extraction of DEMs from Cartosat-1 stereo imagery using stereo correlation technique for Manali region. The focus of this paper was to assess the accuracy of extracted DEM with respect to DGPS observations, DEM generated from digitized contours of Survey of India (SoI), 1:50,000 scale topographic map(converted to ellipsoidal height using egm2008 geoid model) as well as well-known freely available DEMs ASTER GDEM …

Satellite based Monitoring of Water Resource Project using Google Earth: A Case Study of Bhima LIS
Abstract: Monitoring of physical progress of water resources projects is challenging because the field inspection has serious limitations as the canal network isn’t uniform across the command area. The canal network consists of main canals, distributaries and minors of varying dimensions right from head works towards tail end. Hence, use of remote sensing and geographical information system (RS and GIS) offers tremendous scope in monitoring of progress of water resources projects …
