Bile Tolerance Activity of Probiotic Bacteria (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria)
Abstract: Twenty two strains of each probiotic organisms Lactobacillus (LAB) and Bifidobacteria (BB) were isolated from the faeces of breast-fed infants at the University of Putra, Malaysia. Mann Rogossa and Sharpe (MRS) and Trypticase Phytone Peptone Yeast extract (TPY) were used as selective media for the isolation of these organisms. Resistance to bile is an important characteristic that enables probiotic organisms to survive and grow in the intestinal tract. Six LAB …

Antibiotic Susceptibility of Lactic Acid Bacteria and Bifidobacteria
Abstract: Three Lactobacillus (LAB) strains, namely, LAB-3, LAB-11 and LAB-21 (species L. casei) and three Bifidobacteriam (BB) strains, namely, Bifi-11, Bifi-19 and Bifi-20 (species B. infantis) were grown in MRS broth and TPY broth, respectively. They were subjected to susceptibility tests against a range of antibiotics. The isolates were resistant to streptomycin, vancomycin, bacitracin, cephalothine, ceftizoxime, ceftriazon, cloxacillin, clindamycin, cefuroxime, cefuxime and tetracycline and kanamycin but susceptible to ampicillin, amoxicillin and …

Probiotics in Food Science: Microbial Health Benefits and Future Trends
Abstract: Probiotics are mostly recommended as supplements by the doctors to administer nutritive and healthy benefits. Probiotic foods vary in different forms from yogurts to granola bars. It contains lactic acid bacteria and Bifidobacterium which makes the gastrointestinal tract healthy and whose mode of action involves epithelial barriers, and enhancement in the rate of adhesion to the intestinal mucosa. It helps to get rid from inflammatory diseases, acne, photo-aging, cancer and …

Effect of Prebiotics on Growth of the Selected Lactobacilli Culture Isolated from Dairy Products
Abstract: Prebiotics beneficially affects the host by selectively stimulating the growth or activity of one or limited number of bacteria such as bifidobacteria, lactobacilli in the colon that can improve the host health. Inulin and gum acacia are the most commonly available prebiotics. The ability of lactobacilli cultures (i.e. Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus casei) to utilize inulin, gum acacia, honey and fructo-oligosaccharide @ 2% for different time intervals (6, …

Isolation and Identification of Lactobacillus from Raw Buffalo Milk from the Local Region of Agra
Abstract: The term ‘Probiotic’, literally means, ‘for life’ which describes “substances secreted by one microorganism stimulating the growth of another”. These are viable microorganisms which contribute to intestinal microbial balance and help to improve the gut health in humans and other animals. Probiotics have been used in animal feed industry as a food supplements. They are also used to manufacture the fermented dairy products widely. The most common among them are …

Isolation of Lactobacillus Acidophilus with A High Acid-Producing Capacity and Its Common Characteristics
Abstract: Some strains of lactobacilli like spore Lactobacillus offer good merits in normalizing intestinal micro biota, resisting selectively to intestinal pathogens, exerting resistance to heat, acid and antibiotics, and are of good storage stability. This research work has been conducted in order to isolate a certain strain of Lactobacillus that offers high resistance to the gastric acid, bile and pathogens, and mutualistic symbiosis with useful intestinal microbes, and identifying its characteristics …

The Probiomagic
Abstract: The exact location or composition of gut is not yet known to the human It has a vague usage in the colloquial language and scientifically contains the system of microbial flora that is ultimately responsible for increasing the potential of our immune system. It is the study of more “good bacteria” as it is called commonly and higher the composition of our gut microbiome, better is our capability of fighting …

Application of Probiotic Diet on Rats and its Effect on Lipid Profile: A Case-control Study
Abstract: Lipid profile and cholesterol level play an important role in cardiovascular and other life style diseases. A case-control study was designed on 16 rats to observe the effects of probiotic diet for controlling lipid and cholesterol level. Probiotic bacteria culture (Danisco freeze drying culture) was collected from Denmark. The isolation and identification of the strains was carried out at Industrial Food Microbiology laboratory, Institute of Food science and Technology of …
