Exploring the Practice of Bench Terraces and its Sustainability in Silte and Gurage Zones SNNPR, Ethiopia
Abstract: Background and Objective: The increment of population number is creating pressure on land for crop and fodder production in Ethiopian. Practicing bench terraces could resolve the shortage of cultivable land and mitigate the problem of soil erosion. However, the multiple benefits of bench terraces; its practices and sustainability are not well studied in different parts of southern Ethiopia. Therefore, the current study has been initiated to explore the bench terraces …

Turbulence Characteristics of Flow over Smooth and Rough Beds
Abstract: Experimental study on turbulence measurements in an open channel with smooth and rough beds using acoustic doppler velocimeter (ADV) has been carried out in the present study. Measured velocity distribution along the depth on smooth and rough beds for different discharges and bed slopes is in good agreement with logarithmic law. The turbulence intensities were more near the bed and less near the water surface. Existing equations for turbulence intensities …

The Influence of Sediment Deposits in the Threshold Criteria of Sediment Movement in Rigid Boundary
Abstract: An effort is made to develop a simplified methods for the estimation of bed shear stress for rigid boundary for initiation of sediment motion using different bed thickness, bed slopes and different sediment particles diameters (ranging between (0.5mm < d50 < 4.78). The findings were compared with the earlier studies demonstrating that critical shear parameter value for fixed beds is less than the reported values in literature. This come in …

Slope Stability At The Juncture Of Dredged Berth Pocket & Reclaimed Earth Embankment During Turbulence Caused by Rotation of Ship’s Propeller
Abstract: For accepting vessels with large drafted deepening of the berth pocket at any jetty is necessary by dredging. During berthing of ships, the bed soil particles in berth pocket gets eroded due to critical velocity, due to turbulence of the sea water in the pocket, caused by propeller’s motion and also due to eddies formed during trimming of vessel. Such disturbances in bed soil particles and the energy in the …

History and Development of Design of Regime Channels: A State of the Art Review
Abstract: Channels carrying sediment laden water and constructed in erodible alluvial materials must be designed to be silt stable or in regime such canals by definition neither scour nor silt. The design of channel involves the selection of channel alignment, shape, size and bottom slope. In general, a channel changesincessantly in its position, shape and slope, as a consequence of hydraulic forces acting on its bed and banks. The design of …
