Start-Up of the Two-Stage UASB Reactor Using Paper Mill Effluent
Abstract: This study is designed to evaluate the treatability potential of using two-stage anaerobic reactors (R-I and R-II) for the treatment of paper mill effluent. It was observed that the bicarbonate alkalinity of the reactors increased from 215 to 266 mg-CaCO3/L in reactor R-I and from 456 to 604 mg-CaCO3/L in reactor R-II, by the addition of an external buffer solution. The average volatile fatty acids formation noticed within the reactors …

Studies on Thick Aerofoils at Subsonic Speeds for a Civil Transport Wing
Abstract: Airfoils are the most important elements of an aircraft wing, having a chord length a camber and a thickness distribution. Traditionally, airfoils were being developed by empirical methods taking considerable support from wind tunnel testing. The ratio of lift to drag indicates the efficiency of an aerofoil. The purpose of this study is to adequately acquaint, as a first step, with a validated vertex lattice method code, the X-foil for …

Use of Fuzzy Logic Method for the Optimisation of the Wear Parameters of Aluminum Alloy
Abstract: In this paper, use of fuzzy logic in the Taghuchi method for the optimisation of the wear parameters of aluminum alloy is explained. An experiment was conducted on three alloys viz. Al-25Zn-2.5Cu-5SiC, Al-25Zn-2.5Cu-10SiC, Al-25Zn-2.5Cu-15SiC. Experiments were carried out on standard pin-on-disc machine, at ambient temperature and under dry operating condition. The three process parameters like sliding velocity, load and sliding distance were optimized. In the Taguchi method, L27 orthogonal array …

Utilization of Waste Polyethylene Terephthalate with Bitumen for Road Construction
Abstract: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is commonly used for soft drink water bottles and other applications. However, disposal of this waste PET in large quantities causes environmental problem, as it is considered non-biodegradable material. This study investigated utilization of waste PET mixed with 60/70 penetration grade of bitumen to be as a raw material for road construction. The effect of temperature (140, 150, 160°C), composition of PET (4, 8, 12%) and mixing …

Analysis of Sedimentation Deposition in Morbe Reservoir by Using RS and GIS
Abstract: The reduce in the storage volume due to sediment deposits in the reservoir at different level over a period of time can be related with the decrease in water diffusion zone at different elevation. This study shows the use of RS and GIS to estimate reservoir sediment deposits. The 2007 original capacity curve of water storage is now used as base for the 2017–18 sediment assessment. The digital processing was …
