Hand Geometry based Person Identification System using Support Vector Machine
Abstract: In recent times, it is immensely important to identify a person to access the secure data in a system. In this case, verification and identification techniques play a vital role to secure the process. Password system has failed to provide such kind of security. We highly emphasize on the biometric characteristics to design such secured systems. In this paper, we provide a way to identify a unique person by his …

Incomplete Information and Expected Performance Characteristics of Heat Engines
Abstract: In this paper, a connection between Bayesian statistics and the optimal performance characteristics of thermodynamic heat cycles is proposed. In particular, the subjective ignorance about internal energy scales of the working medium, quantified as a prior distribution leads to an expected behaviour of heat cycles which shows some remarkable thermodynamic features. It is shown that efficiency at maximum work is closely related to Curzon-Ahlborn (CA) efficiency. This efficiency usually appears …

Dissolution Enhancement in Nano/Micro-Sized Dispersions of Piroxicam with the Novel Polymer Soluplus® and Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone
Abstract: Piroxicam, a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID), belongs to the class II of the biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) and thus exhibits poor bioavailability. In an effort to tackle this issue, we report here the comparative properties of the solid dispersions of piroxicam made from a novel graft copolymer of polyvinyl caprolactam-polyvinyl acetate-polyethylene glycol (Soluplus) and the linear polymer polyvinyl pyrrolidone (K 25), both the dispersions synthesized identically using solvent evaporation method. …

Development and Validation of a New Stability-Indicating HPLC Method for the Determination of Rosiglitazone in Tablets
Abstract: Rosiglitazone (ROS) is an antidiabetic drug belonging to the thiazolidine class. A new stability-indicating high-performance chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the determination of ROS in pharmaceuticals, and validated for its suitability following the ICH guidelines. Chromatography was performed on a Chromatopack (250×4.6 mm; 5 µm particle size) column using phosphate buffer of pH 3.2 and methanol (70:30 v/v) as mobile phase pumped at a flow rate of 1 ml …

Two New, Useful and Facile Stability-Indicating UV Spectrophotometric Methods for the Determination of Rosiglitazone in Pharmaceuticals
Abstract: Rosiglitazone (ROS) is an antidiabetic drug belonging to the thiozolidine class. Two simple, rapid, sensitive, accurate and reproducible UV-spectrophotometric methods were developed and subsequently validated for the determination of ROS in bulk and tablet form. The methods are based on the measurement of the absorbance of the drug solution either in 0.1 M NaOH (NaOH method) or in 0.1 M HCl (HCl method) at 316 nm in both instances. The …

Texture Segmentation Using Multichannel Filtering And Kohonen’s Self Organizing Map
Abstract: The texture is very important cue in region based segmentation of images. Texture features play a very important role in computer vision and pattern recognition. Texture segmentation can be broken down into two areas, feature extraction and clustering. In this paper, we implement two stage of feature extraction technique using multichannel filter and Self Organizing Map (SOM). Firstly, we go through channel filters, also known as 2-D Gabor functions. The …

Forest Fire Hazards Vulnerability and Risk Assessment in Bhajji Forest Range of Himachal Pradesh (India): A Geospatial Approach
Abstract: The vulnerability of the Indian forests to fire varies from place to place depending upon the type of vegetation and climate. The coniferous forest in the region is very prone to fire. Objective of the current work is to prepare a model which articulate the forest fire risk and assess the fire vulnerability so that the concerned authorities can minimize the fire danger. Fire hazard mapping was performed using knowledge …

Thermal Gradient Effect on Vibrations of Non-homogeneous Rectangular Plate having Continuously Parabolically Varying Thickness in both Directions
Abstract: This paper presents the effect of thermal gradient on vibrations of non-homogeneity of the material of plate structures on the vibration frequencies for continuously parabolically varying thickness in both directions. The non-homogeneity of the plate is characterized by taking linear temperature variations in the Young’s modulus and linear variation in density of the material. Vibrational behaviors of non-homogeneous rectangular plates of variable thickness having two opposite edges (y = 0 …
