Remote Sensing and GIS-Based Approaches for Soil Salinization Assessment: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: Soil salinization, a critical environmental challenge, significantly impacts land productivity, agricultural yields, and contributes to desertification, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Early detection and effective management of soil salinity are essential for sustainable agriculture and land management. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) have emerged as indispensable tools for mapping, monitoring, and analyzing soil salinity over vast areas. RS provides multi-temporal and multi-spectral data that helps identify …

Urban Planning Mitigation Trajectories for Urban Heat Island (UHI) A Case Study of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India
Abstract: AbstractGlobal radiation related solair-temperature directly influences Urban Heat Islands (UHI) as the built environments and surrounding atmosphere cause increase in urban solair temperatures, the resulting temperature completely depends on the thermal properties of the exposed materials. Urban heat islands can lead to deterioration of flora and fauna, elevation of ground level ozone, health disorders and increase in building energy consumptions. The study area of Guntur region which is susceptible to …

Zonation of Potential Groundwater and Its Spatial Correlation with Indices and Boreholes: Western Region of Blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia
Abstract: Water has a significant role in day to day life of people to fulfill their requirements. Although, study area is a part of Blue Nile basin but it has great water scarcity because of its topographic and geological nature. It has been observed during the field visit that people are travelling long to get the water from remote areas. Productivity through groundwater is quite high as compared to surface water, …

Seasonal Dynamics of Coastal Landscapes: A Critical Review Using Remote Sensing and GIS
Abstract: Coastal landscapes are among the most dynamic environments on Earth, undergoing continuous transformation due to both natural processes and anthropogenic activities. In India, particularly along the southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, shoreline morphology and sediment transport patterns are significantly influenced by seasonal monsoons, cyclones, storm surges, waves, tides, and changing river discharges. These factors contribute to varying rates of coastal erosion, accretion, inundation, and land- …

Studies on Trace Metal Pollution In Water of Lower Gadilam River
Abstract: The present work deals with the studies on trace metal pollution in water of lower Gadilamriver,Tamil Nadu, India. The main objectives of the proposed study are to detect the geochemical characteristics of the water sample collected from Gadilam River and to demarcate the spatial distribution of heavy metals and their influence on water of Gadilamriver and the surrounding environment. This study revealed that the enhanced concentration of trace metals in …

Zooplankton Assemblages and Limnological Properties of the Choba Segment, Upper Reaches of New Calabar River, Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Abstract: The zoological assemblage and the limnological characteristics of the Choba segment of the upper reaches of New Calabar river, Port Harcourt was studied between March and May, 2021. Three stations were sampled for water and zooplankton using a 45 m plankton net and plastic bottles, respectively, in accordance with the APHA's standard procedure. The results showed that a total of 696 zooplankton individuals consisting of 22 species from four taxonomic …

Vegetation Area Monitoring Through NDVI Technique: A Case Study of Dengei Pahad Micro Watershed, Khurda District, Odisha
Abstract: Watershed treatment includes implementation of participatory micro-watershed-based soil and moisture conservation programs and income generation through proper natural resource management areas. This has led to increased productivity and income. Training and holistic management along with aforestation programs has led to reduction of silt flow to the lake. The assessment revealed that land degradation in the drainage basin not only leads to enhanced silt flow into the lagoon but also causes …

Geoenvironmental Evaluation and Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Sediment, Minichinda Stream, Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Abstract: The pollution status and risk assessment of the heavy metals in the sediment from Minichinda stream, Port Harcourt were studied. Sediment samples collected for twelve Months from four stations were analyzed for heavy metals using spectrophotometer as in the standard method. The mean values for the respective heavy metals (mg/kg) include Cd (0.496±0.20), Cr (0.460±0.17), Pb (0.469±0.20), Cu (0.738±0.26) and Fe (15.05). The spatial mean concentration of the metals varied …

Integrated Remote Sensing Indices for Assessing Pre-Monsoon Water Scarcity Vulnerability in a Semi-Arid Coastal Ecosystem: A Case Study of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat, India
Abstract: Freshwater availability fundamentally shapes the structure and function of dryland ecosystems, where evapotranspiration exceeds precipitation for most of the year. Protected areas in semiarid regions face intensifying hydrological stress from climate variability, growing wildlife populations, and resident human communities, yet systematic spatial assessments of water scarcity remain scarce for many critical habitats. The Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in coastal Gujarat, India, has recently become a secondary home for the endangered Asiatic …

Correlation between Enhanced Vegetation Indices and Rainfall Patterns of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh
Abstract: Vegetation indices enhance vegetation spectral signatures by combining bands of red (630–700 nm) and near-infrared wavelengths (700–1100 nm). This can be best suited to study vital activity of vegetation on land surface. Kurnool district is chosen to assess the capability of continuous spatial and temporal coverage; MODIS-derived enhanced vegetation indices (EVI) data were utilized to monitor the vegetation seasonal dynamics and their relationship with precipitation. Statistical analysis of mandal-wise mean …

Thermal Effects in High-Power Laser Systems: Modeling and Mitigation
Abstract: High-power laser systems are increasingly employed in industrial manufacturing, defense, medical procedures, and scientific research due to their ability to deliver high energy density with excellent spatial coherence. However, the performance and reliability of these systems are significantly influenced by thermal effects arising from optical absorption, non-radiative recombination, and inefficient heat dissipation within laser gain media and optical components. These thermal phenomena lead to adverse effects such as thermal lensing, …

Geospatial based Travel Time and Delay Analysis for Urban Road Network
Abstract: Traffic congestion is widely viewed as a growing problem in many urban areas because the overall volume of vehicular traffic in many areas continues to grow faster than the overall capacity of the transportation system. It has become one of the plagues of modern life particularly in developing countries like India where many cities operate under severely congested traffic conditions on a daily basis. Geographical Information Systems and Global Positioning …

A Contribution to the Study of Geographical Displacement of Crime using GIS–Kings Cross, London
Abstract: Displacement of crime is the specter that haunts crime prevention studies, in that, the crime problem does not go away but shifts from one location to another. The fact that crime is not reduced in an area but rather moves around means that trying to change the situation and circumstances surrounding the targeted area may not fully reduce crime. Research that has been previously carried out into the study of …
