Nonlinear Mathematical Modelling and Adaptive Optimization of Nuclear Reactor Thermal-Hydraulic Systems for Safe and Efficient Operation
Abstract: Advanced nuclear reactors are characterized by strongly coupled nonlinear interactions among neutron kinetics, reactor power, fuel temperature, coolant temperature, reactivity, and coolant flow. Accurate mathematical representation of these interactions is essential for analysing reactor stability, thermal behaviour, and safe operating conditions. This study develops a nonlinear mathematical framework for coupled neutronic–thermal reactor dynamics by integrating point-reactor kinetics, delayed-neutron precursor equations, fuel and coolant energy balances, and temperature- dependent reactivity feedback. …

Portable small nuclear reactor for supplying Power to remote places
Abstract: Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA has developed one very light and small sized modular portable nuclear power plant. It can be transported to remote places either by truck or cargo plane or boat and installed there within a couple of days. It can provide readymade plug-and-go power supply at war front, disaster site, remote islands etc. with a very low sound signature. Due to use of heat pipes and other …

Boiling Heat Transfer Enhancement on Macro-, Micro- and Nano-scales
Abstract: This paper presents a review of investigations on boiling heat transfer enhancement on macro-, micro- and nano-scale surfaces and fluids by the authors at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) plus known results of other researchers. These investigations were conducted with the purpose of increasing safety and efficiency of power generating systems. The investigations were focused on such problems as effective cooling at high heat flux (1 MW/m2 and more), …

Membrane Filtration Technology for Radioactive Liquid Waste
Abstract: All industrial, scientific and medical processes using radioactive material are responsible for producing nuclear waste which is detrimental to marine life. There is large quantity of water consumption in nuclear power plant due to huge amount of heat dissipation in the reactors. The other sources of radioactive waste can be obtained from the operations conducted by nuclear power stations and from mining and refining of uranium and thorium. While processing …

Worker Radiation Exposure during Transportation of Irradiated LEU Targets in a Typical MTR Reactor
Abstract: The paper estimates the radiation dose exposure for the worker in the second Egyptian research reactor ETRR-2 during the process of transporting the irradiated low enriched uranium LEU plates from the core to the hot cell. The aim of estimating the radiation doses distribution is determining the exposure dose for the worker during the transportation process as a safety point of view. In order to estimate irradiated LEU plates radiation …

Digital Twin and Machine Learning Framework for Predictive Maintenance of Nuclear Power Systems
Abstract: Nuclear power systems contain safety-critical components whose degradation can affect availability, reliability, and maintenance planning. Conventional maintenance strategies are largely based on scheduled inspection, threshold monitoring, and condition-based assessment, which may not fully exploit the large volume of continuously generated plant data. Digital Twin (DT) technology provides a mechanism for maintaining a synchronized virtual representation of a physical nuclear system, while machine learning (ML) can extract degradation patterns from multivariate …
