Design and Development of an Automated Robotic Algorithm for Blasting, Painting, and Barnacle Cleaning of Offshore Structures
Abstract: Marine surface maintenance tasks such as barnacle removal, abrasive blasting, and protective painting are traditionally carried out using manual methods that are labor-intensive, hazardous, and prone to variability in quality. These challenges are particularly significant for offshore structures, where harsh environmental conditions and restricted accessibility increase operational risks and maintenance costs. This paper presents the design and evaluation of an autonomous robotic system for automated surface preparation and coating of …

Application of flux cored arc welding (fcaw) without pre-heating for heavy structures in ship building fabrication & construction of heavy offshore structural steels
Abstract: In fusion welding processes, the reason often given to explain the need for preheating, controlling the inter pass temperature (in multi-pass welds), and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is to reduce the risk of residual stresses and it can be removed by heating weldment in the heat affected zone (HAZ). Cold cracking is a hydrogen embrittlement phenomenon, often referred to as hydrogen induced cracking or HAZ cracking. During the construction and …

Performance of Offshore Steel Jacket Platforms under Near-source Ground Motion Type Pulses
Abstract: Behaviour of jacket type offshore structures under ordinary ground excitations has already been addressed by a number of researchers. However, their performance under near-source ground excitations has not been particularly addressed in the literature. Records from recent earthquakes, such as the Kobe Japan (1995) and Chi-Chi Taiwan (1999), have revealed that the dynamic excitations in near-source are dominated by a large, narrow band and long period pulse caused by rupture …
