Influence of Acidic Naf-Hf Solution on Dental Minerals
Abstract: The effect of solutions of sodium fluoride in hydrofluoric acid on the fluoride-dental minerals reaction system was investigated. The fluoride concentration in each fluoride solution was kept at 1.23% as the fluoride concentration in the acidulated phosphate fluoride solution at pH 3. The acidic sodium fluoride-hydrofluoric acid solutions with different contents of sodium fluoride and hydrofluoric acid were prepared. These solutions were added to synthetic powder hydroxyapatite and calcium hydrogen …

Effect of 940-nm Low-Level Laser Therapy on Tooth Movement Rate during Orthodontic Treatment: A Split-Mouth Double-Blind Randomized-Controlled Trial
Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of low-level laser with wavelength of 940 nm on acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement. Materials and Methods: This study was a double-blind randomized-controlled trial with split-mouth design. Fifty-five patients whose four first premolars were extracted for orthodontic treatment were randomly allocated to group A (n = 27) and group B (n = 28). Canine retraction was performed using the force of 150 g …

DentiDetect: Dental Diagnosis Powered by Deep Learning
Abstract: Dental X-rays play a crucial role in modern dentistry, enabling dentists to detect cavities, bone loss, and other hidden dental issues that are not easily visible during a routine examination. X-rays offer a clear picture of teeth, bones, and nearby tissues, enabling early identification of issues. This helps create more efficient treatment strategies and improves patient outcomes. Three commonly used types of X-rays include bitewing, periapical, and panoramic. Bitewing X-rays …

CBCT: A Boon in Periodontics – A Review
Abstract: Periodontal disease is an inflammatory disease that can be diagnosed mainly based on clinical signs and symptoms. Two-dimensional radiographs are valuable diagnostic tools as an adjunct to the clinical examination in assessing periodontal bone level. Two-dimensional images do not provide accurate bone levels due to its limitations like projection geometry, superimposition of adjacent anatomic structures, leading to the need for three-dimensional imaging that overcomes these limitations. The diagnosis and treatment …

Viruses and Their Role in Periodontal Diseases: A Review
Abstract: Periodontal diseases are a group of inflammatory conditions that primarily affect the gums and other tissues surrounding the teeth. Traditionally, these conditions were thought to be driven largely by bacterial infections, with the bacteria triggering an immune response that leads to inflammation and tissue damage. However, recent research has revealed that viruses also play a significant role in the development and progression of periodontal diseases. Viruses, such as Human Cytomegalovirus, …

Panfacial Trauma- A Case Report
Abstract: The majority of panfacial fractures are accompanied by concurrent organ damage. Panfacial fracture management is difficult and necessitates careful planning, sequencing, and sufficient understanding of the anatomy and management of the condition. In any trauma situation, the ABCDEs (airway, breathing, circulation, disability, and exposure) always remain the primary care priorities. Maxillofacial surgeons are essential in the early stabilization of fractures, the management of localized bleeding into the face, and the …

Socket Preservation: Review
Abstract: The removal of a tooth results in remodeling and absorption not only within the socket but also in the surrounding alveolar bone. Alterations in the bone ridge following extraction are unavoidable, influenced by the initial size of the socket, with wider sockets requiring more time to heal completely. Both the height and width of the bone undergo dimensional changes subsequent to tooth extraction. The volumetric bone reduction changes occur after tooth …

Comparison of Knowledge Perceived by Final Year Dental Students for a Lesson on the Apical Barrier in the Premature Root by Clinical Case Demonstration as Compared to the Didactic Teaching Method
Abstract: The present dental education is using didactic teaching method, which is teacher-centered with minimal or no active participation from the students. Case-based learning (CBL) is defined as learning that is based upon description of a patient’s problems, analysis and interpretation of all the relevant data obtained from history, examination and investigations and planning for further management of patient. The goal of CBL is to prepare students for clinical practice, by …

Concern for Public Health: Periodontitis
Abstract: Periodontitis, a severe form of gum disease, erodes the bone that supports teeth and results in tooth loss. It is caused by bacterial infection and inflammation of the soft tissues around the teeth. About 70% of people 65 years of age and older are affected, on average. Red, bleeding, sensitive gums, foul breath, and receding gums are hallmark indications. Depending on the severity, a full dental examination, the insertion of …

The Dental Pulp: Vital Core of Tooth Functionality
Abstract: Dental pulp, an intricately specialized mesenchymal tissue, possesses limited regenerative capabilities attributable to the unique anatomical arrangement and the post-mitotic nature of odontoblastic cells. The process of complete pulp amputation, subsequent disinfection of the pulp space, and the insertion of synthetic materials results in the substantial loss of dentin, leading to enduring consequences such as a non-vital and structurally weakened tooth.Nevertheless, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of …

Oral Health wsr to Dental Fluorosis: A Review
Abstract: Dental fluorosis occurs due to the hypo mineralization of tooth enamel. This can lead to discoloration of the teeth. Mild and very mild fluorosis can cause teeth to look whiter, and therefore, it can improve esthetic perceptions of teeth, thereby leading to better OHRQoL (Oral Health related quality of Life). On the other hand, moderate and severe fluorosis can cause more noticeable tooth discoloration and, in some cases, even loss …
