Tsetse Flies and African Trypanosomiasis: Biology, Epidemiology, and Integrated Vector Control.
Abstract: Tsetse flies (Glossina spp.) are hematophagous dipterans confined to sub-Saharan Africa and serve as cyclical vectors of human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) and African animal trypanosomiasis (AAT), with major implications for human health, livestock productivity, and rural development. An integrated understanding of tsetse biology, parasite transmission, climate, and land–use–driven distribution shifts, and the comparative performance of control tools—especially insecticides and sterile insect technique (SIT)—is essential for designing sustainable elimination strategies. HAT …

Medically Important Hemiptera: Bed Bugs and Kissing Bugs in Human Health.
Abstract: Bed bugs (family Cimicidae) and kissing bugs (subfamily Triatominae) are hematophagous Hemiptera of major medical importance, yet they differ markedly in their public health impact. Bed bugs have resurged globally over the past three decades, with infestations reported from homes, multi-unit housing, hotels, transportation, and healthcare facilities in both high and low-income settings. They are not established biological vectors of human pathogens, but their bites cause pruritic papules, urticarial, and …

Demodex spp. (Acari: Demodicidae) Infestation in Humans: Diagnostic Clues and Therapeutic Approaches to Primary and Secondary Demodicosis.
Abstract: Demodicosis represents an inflammatory dermatosis and adnexal disorder arising from pathologic overgrowth of Demodex mites, primarily Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis, which are ubiquitous human ectoparasites residing in pilosebaceous units and eyelid margins. Once regarded as benign commensals, these mites are now recognized as primary drivers or key cofactors in diverse clinical phenotypes, including papulopustular eruptions, pityriasis folliculorum, rosacea-like disorders, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, and exacerbations of comorbid dermatoses such …

Investigating mosquito innate immune defence mechanism towards malaria vaccine development
Abstract: Mosquito-borne diseases weigh heavily on public health across the globe. The mosquito’s innate immune system certainly decides whether malaria parasites survive inside the vector, and that sighted it as a logical place to discover new vaccine ideas. In this review, we examine how Anopheles mosquitoes defend themselves against Plasmodium parasites and how those defenses could be turned into tools for malaria control. We focus on three layers of immunity: antimicrobial …

Interaction of Mosquito’s hppd Enzyme with Lansoprazole Sulfide A New Hope to Tackle the Mosquito Menace – an in-Silico Study
Abstract: Tyrosine detoxification is an important physiological process that helps blood-feeding insects, such as mosquitoes that transmit Plasmodium parasites causing malaria, digest their blood meals. An enzyme known as 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), which is part of the tyrosine detoxification pathway, helps in removing excess tyrosine in a high-protein blood meal. Excess tyrosine can be lethal to the insects, and hence, the role of HPPD enzyme is very critical. Inhibitors of HPPD …

Insects and Public Health
Abstract: Insects have two roles in public health: they can spread disease and help with health treatments. This article looks at the complicated relationship between insects and public health, with a focus on how they spread diseases including malaria, dengue, Zika, and Lyme disease. The ecology, behaviour, and distribution of important vector species are looked at along with the social and environmental elements that cause outbreaks. The article also talks about …

A Study on Insect Journey using Sensor
Abstract: The orthodox entomologist’s toolkit – the net, the vial, the killing jar – has long rendered its subject’s mute. We have cataloged insects by their form, their pinned and static beauty, but have been largely deaf to the living, breathing reality of their existence. This study proposes a paradigm shift: to listen. By deploying a suite of miniaturized, non-invasive sensors – from accelerometers that trace the micro-vibrations of a beetle’s …

Common Diseases of Silkworm and Their Management – A Comprehensive Overview
Abstract: Silkworms (Bombyxmori L.), pivotal to the sericulture industry, are susceptible to various diseases that significantly impact cocoon production and quality. Common silkworm diseases include viral, bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infections. Prominent viral diseases, such as nuclear polyhedrosis (NPV) and cytoplasmic polyhedrosis (CPV) often cause mass mortality in larvae. Bacterial diseases, like flacherie, are typically induced by poor hygiene and environmental stress. Fungal infections, including muscardine caused by Beauveria bassiana, proliferate …

Havoc of Papaya Mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus) and Its Management Strategies
Abstract: The papaya mealybug (Paracoccus marginatus) is a serious problem that affects mulberries, citrus, and papaya among other agricultural and horticultural crops. Originating in Central America, it has spread around the world and caused extensive harm because of its capacity to consume plant sap, which results in reduced crop yields, fruit drop, and chlorosis. In addition, the insect releases honeydew, which encourages the development of sooty mold, further impeding photosynthesis and …
