Abstract

AbstractThis paper attempts to measure the concentration of water in fire resistant hydraulic fluids used for opening of door in coke furnace through optical waveguide. The proposed model is a two dimensional photonic crystal structure with glass substrate consisting of air holes. Measurement principle is concentrated on linear variation of photonic band gap (PBG) along with concentration of fire resistant fluids infiltrated in air holes of photonic crystal structure. The plane wave expansion scheme is used to determine the PBG and linear variation (R2=0.9974) of PBG in addition to observed water concentration. Besides this, an excellent linear variation (R2=0.9976) of transmitted light intensity with respect to water concentration is also realized. Since the simulation is based on optical principle, it gives an accurate result to investigate the same. Finally, an experimental setup is planned to obtain the transmitted intensity of light with respect to percentage of water content in water glycol solution. Keywords: Optical waveguide, photonic crystal structure, transmitted intensity, water-glycol solution, fire resistant hydraulic fluidsCite this ArticleSantosh Kumar Sahoo, G.
