Abstract

The braking system is arguably the most important system in any automobile. The existing braking system has certain critical problems, which could lead to major problems like fatal accidents, loss of lives of pedestrians and damage to government property. Air bags are available nowadays, which protect the driver and the passengers. However, the external damage to the vehicle cannot be prevented and its repair cost may be expensive. Let the mass of a car be 2000 kg travelling with a velocity of 40 km/h = 11.11 m/s. The magnitude of momentum |p| = 22,220 kg.m/s. Kinetic energy (KE) before crashing = 1, 23,432.1 kg.m2/s2. Let the stopping distance after crashing be d = 10 m. F = 12,343.21 N, where, F is the impact force. If the speed is reduced to 10 km/h = 2.77 m/s and the stopping distance to 1 m, KE before crashing = 7672.9.4 kg.m2/s2. Impact force F = 7672.9 N. Percentage of change in the impact force = (12343.21-7672.9)/12343.21 * 100 = 37.84 % decrease. The percentage decrease (approximately 40%) in the impact force is considerable enough to incorporate some changes in the existing braking system. Keywords: Ultrasonic sensors, Arduino UNO, microcontrollerCite this ArticleA.B.
