Abstract

The need for food is rising along with the population, which puts additional pressure on farmersto raise more crops. However, farmers have found it difficult to supply this demand due toreasons like water scarcity, erratic weather, and ineffective irrigation techniques. IntelligentWatering System (IWS) is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to transform theagricultural sector. It not only optimizes water usage and increases crop yield but also promotessustainable farming practices. With the increasing challenges faced by farmers, IWS provides asolution that can help them both satisfy the expanding need for food and preserving theenvironment. Future food security along with sustainable development are anticipated to begreatly aided by technology, as it develops further. The IWS system consists of sensors, acontroller, and a microprocessor, typically a Raspberry Pi. The sensors are placed in the soil atvarious locations to measure the moisture levels. The data collected by these sensors is then sentto the controller, which is programmed to analyse the data and determine the irrigation needs ofthe crops. Based on the analysis, the controller sends a signal to the microprocessor, which thenactivates the irrigation system to water the crops.
