Abstract

Fluid flow and heat transfer in impinging air jet are of great importance in different engineering applications. The review concentrates on heat transfer studies in impinging air jet based on Nozzle geometry, Reynolds No, Nozzle to plate spacing, Nozzles with arrays or mesh screens, porous plates, oblique angle, plate geometry, plate surfaces and cross flow of jet and incorporates two major parts namely, experimental and numerical methodologies. Experimental methodologies employ steady state and transient thermal measurements (Thermo chromatic liquid crystal technique, Thermocouple, IR Thermography). Numerical approaches comprise of modern CFD computational tools (LES, k-ϵ model, k-ω model, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation, ν2fturbulence model, DNS and Near wall treatment). Keywords: impinging jet, convective heat transfer enhancement, confinement, thermal measurements, pressure distributions
