Qurs-e-Kaknaj: An Effective Unani Compound Drug in Treatment of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS)

Abstract

Lower urinary tract symptom is a common presentation among elderly male patients and required a safe pharmacological composition to improve the quality of life in these patients. In recent years, there has been a shift in paradigm of medicine selection from synthetic to herbal medicine. Medicinal plants have been used in Unani System of Medicine since antiquity to treat ailments as rich source of therapeutic agent. Qurs-e-Kaknaj is a Unani herbal compound formulation to treat various urinary tract symptoms and has significant improvement in increased frequency of micturition, suprapubic discomfort and burning. In the present drug review, composition, pharmacological properties and chemical constituents present in Qurs-e-Kaknaj are discussed in detail.
