Abstract

The Gangetic belt of West Bengal of India is one of the most effective zones of atmospheric instabilities. The formation of the instabilities follows complex method whose clear understanding is very essential. The present work reports a model for its prediction system. The instabilities at the thunderstorms in the pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons for a period of two years exhibit interesting findings. Taking support of different meteorological parameters as derived from radiosonde observations and stability indices we have developed a model to predict these instabilities. Besides the prediction model of the atmospheric instabilities we have emphasized the characterisation of the thunderstorm potentials at length.
