Abstract

Bedside ultrasonography has become an important technology for obtaining critical information in the acute management of patients. Understanding the mechanics of ultrasonography is necessary for performing and interpreting scans at the bedside. The mechanics of both continuous and pulsed wave sound are used in diagnostic ultrasonography. In order to obtain proper sonographic images, the apparatus, which includes transducers and image processing, is critical. Understanding how these concepts interact allows practitioners to provide the finest photos possible.
